Meandering Around… August 11, 2008

A few nibbles that I’ve gathered on my trawlings…
- You must pay a visit to Mr Eugenides, who has written a very fine post on media narratives. In fact, it says everything that I was going to say in a forthcoming piece. And a lot more besides. The bastard.
- As Kafka’s pornography collection is revealed, some commentators can’t quite accept that the lawyer and part-time literary genius did – quelle surprise – have common feelings and desires:
“Kafka had a strongly visual imagination, and the importance of the visual arts for him hasn’t yet been fully explored.”
Yeah, and he was keen on athletics, no doubt. Time for another Alan Bennett revival.
- The results of the Witanagemot Club Awards have been released. Congratulations are due to the Devil, who voters believe to be both a tireless defender of liberty and a bit of a looker, and Dirty European Socialist because his/her stunt has been swallowed. I was pleased to see awards go to Unity and Paul Linford, and – if you’ll forgive me for ridding myself of this goddamn handle – rather amused to note that Harry’s Place is seen to be the second best blog for writings on foreign policy.
- Quote of the day comes from Stephen Rouse, who adds to Liberal Conspiracy’s glossary of Daily Mailia:
“INTELLIGENT DESIGN – They’ve rumbled Genesis – go to Plan B”
Only Shallow by My Bloody Valentine
