Fiendish Flower Wielding Hippy Mercifully Restrained At The RNC… September 2, 2008

The excellent Glenn Greenwald reports from the RNC:
“St. Paul was the most militarized I have ever seen an American city be, even more so than Manhattan in the week of 9/11 — with troops of federal, state and local law enforcement agents marching around with riot gear, machine guns, and tear gas cannisters, shouting military chants and marching in military formations. Humvees and law enforcement officers with rifles were posted on various buildings and balconies. Numerous protesters and observers were tear gassed and injured.”
Now have a vomit over this video. In it, a young girl wearing a “funk the war” sticker holds out a flower as a column of black clad, helmeted policeman march past. As one of them approaches, he fires a pepper spray into the girl’s face, and then continues to attack her as she reels away with her hands pressed against her eyes.
Meanwhile, Democracy Now’s Amy Goodman was forcibly arrested on charges of conspiring to riot, journalists had their notes and equipment siezed and tear gas was fired at fleeing protestors.
The police have described their own actions as “restrained“.
i think they might have been worried the flower was loaded. you cant be too safe these days. she may have been planning to fly it into a building or something.
Shameful. I hope the man next to the guy with the spray was restraining him. It appears to be the case, or so i hope….
