When smearing Obama, the GOP has been keen to exploit the ‘Messiah’ meme, but don’t seem to have realised the implications of it. The fervency of the optimism held by many Democrats is the result of eight years of Republican office, and so when a GOP official says “isn’t it funny that people have such passion for Obama”, they’re really saying “isn’t it funny that people despise us so much”.
Anyway, the electoral campaign has given me the opportunity to experience the American talking heads, and quite clearly the best – in my partisan correctness – is Keith Olbermann. Here, he savages McCain’s positions regarding Iraq:
