Sorry, Are You Into Politics? September 25, 2008

Nadine Dorries is an MP bit of a liar who likes to imply that her opponents are paedophiles. I really can’t be bothered to join in the kicking that she’s received for the dishonest financing of her blog, but while casting an eye or two over the site I thought I’d see what interested this particular elected ruler.

The vacuity is awesome.

“I have often said on my blog that there is nothing a sister on the left hates more than a sister on the right, especially one who is winning the arguments.”

Within a sentence it’s clear that Dorries has a wit, insight and originality that befits her position.

“Not ever having been a ‘feminist’ myself, I do listen to the protestations of the sisterhood with a mixture of wry amusement and cynicism.”

Yes, that laughable bunch of impertinent harpies that had to fight for half a century to gain women the right to vote, let alone stand for Parliament.

“The cynicism is at its most evident these days when listening to comments aimed at Sarah Palin.

Among the comments thrown at Palin by the feminist elite, are that she should be at home looking after her children.”

Any examples?

Never mind.

The ‘why are feminists dissing Palin?’ pieces have been truly miserable. Nick Cohen failed gloriously while Phyllis Schlafy yammered away without providing a single example or sign of humanity.

In any case, a cursory search of the ‘net shows that the perceived ‘feminist elite’ that aims and throws these ’stay at home’ comments consists of a FOX reporter, Penelope Trunk and Republican icon Dr Laura Schlessinger.

Just to restate the blindingly obvious, Sarah Palin lies more than she offers coherent sentences, shows a staggering ignorance of foreign policy and the economy and was largely selected for her symbolic value, which aids the campaign and is useful to McCain’s neoconservative advisers. If she were to step down and spend more time with her family then I’d applaud her, but then I’d applaud a decision to become a plumber, philosopher or Sergeant Major, just as long as she stays away from the Presidency.

She hasn’t begun an argument, let alone won one.

“Now, what exactly are they going to say to one of their own, on the left, who has decided to do just that?”

Nadine, does anyone actually pay attention in Parliament or is it the House of the Dead that it appears to be? How is Ruth Kelly ‘one of their own’? She was an equalities minister that cannily dodged voting on issues pertaining to equality, and said that she was a feministin the sense that I want to see women’s prospects heard“.

Is this a continuation of the ‘feminist elite’ tin-foil hattery or some innate communalism on your part?

Besides, the ‘family’ gambit is suspicious at best. Alan Milburn tried it and subsequently entered the dodgier areas of business. As Septicisle points out, all of Kelly’s children are at school, and she may pop up again.

So, Nadine, if you must vote on issues that decide the future of millions then do some bleedin’ learning. Alternatively, you could drop me an e-mail and hire me as an adviser.
