Oh Great, We’ve Got A “Persecuted Christians” Meme… February 12, 2009

The Daily Heil is panicking, yet again, about the anti-Christian hordes…

“A primary school receptionist is facing the sack after her five-year-old daughter was scolded for talking about God in class.

Jennie Cain’s daughter Jasmine was ticked off by a teacher for discussing heaven and hell with a friend, and came home in a flood of tears.”

Yes, well, let’s see what she actually said

“Jasmine told another pupil ‘if you don’t believe in God you’re going to go to hell’.

“The girl was upset and her teacher asked me for advice about what to do.

“Jasmine was told it is not OK to say that, but it is OK to discuss what you believe with others.”

So, which is more hurtful – being told that you can’t say something in class or being told that you have to believe in something or you’ll burn in the fires of Hell?

Anyway, troubled by the situation, Mrs Cain sought out the spiritual…

“She sent an email, from her home internet account, to members of her church asking them to pray about the situation.

The email was forwarded by a member of the congregation to Gary Read, the school’s head teacher, who launched an investigation into the allegations it contained.”

Admittedly, someone had to be an asshole to foreward the email on to Mr Read, and I’m not sure whether private correspondance should affect her employment. However, the investigation is into “the allegations [that the email] contained“; religion has nothing to do with it.

Naturally, British politics’s resident theocrat has butted in…

‘There is now daily evidence of Christianophobia in this country and it is high time that it was tackled.

‘It is wicked to scold a small child for talking about Jesus. Even if the child was talking about going to hell, that happens to be what Christians believe.’

So, can any child say anything, no matter how hurtful, as long as “that happens to be what [they] believe“? Could a Satanist sing the praises of Lucifer? I don’t think you’ve thought this one through…

Andrea Williams, of the Christian Legal Centre, said: ‘Jennie Cain is the face of what happens when so-called equality and diversity laws run amok.

‘Ordinary citizens need to wake up to what is happening in our country and call upon the Government to intervene before it is too late in order to halt a proliferation of these cases.’

Well, Andrea (is it okay if I point out that you’re the lobbyist from Dispatches, by the way? Kthanx), I’m not sure whether you’re more worried about discrimination or diversity. After all, you did organise Understanding Islam, which promoted the Eurabia theorist Sam Soloman, who claimed that all Muslims are “hatefulandpractice deception“. You also receive assistance and financial support from the Alliance Defence Fund, who campaign against gay adoption and allowing homosexuals into the military. Fair cop?

Christians aren’t, thankfully, discriminated against, and in fact the Christian Church (which, I’m quite aware, doesn’t speak for all for all them) is given quite gratuitous privileges. Some of these social conservatives, though, seem to want to find persecution. It’s useful to their cause.
