The Early Years… April 22, 2009

I’ve mentioned before that my political views grew steadily stupider as I advanced through my teens; starting in opposition to the Iraq war, continuing into the kind of hapless socialism that springs more from the Manics than Marx and, later, lurching into pseudo-scepticism, interventionism and hilariously pompous knee-jerkery. Now I just hate everything (yeah, screw you all). Anyway, I was leafing – well, clicking – through some of my old schoolwork, and stumbled upon this gem from year 8 PSHE…
“Personally I think it is a very good thing to have a remembrance day. The brave men who have fought in service for this country and died should definitely bee remembered. Note I however have put service as I think only 2 wars in the past 104 years have been in protection of THIS country. I think men who have died in wars such as the Iraqi conflicts have been just as brave as any other but were not necessarily in protection of Great Britain.”
Goodness… Well, the anti-interventionist spirit was alright but I must have been a bit of a reactionary; the earnestly capitalised “THIS country” could grace any Daily Mail messageboard. I think that I prefer my agit-prop year 6 essay on “My Favourite Animal”…
Man reduces panda’s habitat every day. What used to be stretching far and wide are now just a few areas of bamboo forest. Panda’s homes are also surrounded by Farms, mines and logging camps, not to mention human population.
Pandas watch, as their domain grows smaller and smaller.
You tell ‘em, me.
Where did it all go wrong…?
You’re such a red under the bed Ben.
